Rising in the Writing World
The Writing Coach & Tutor for Students & Writers
Hi! My name is Shanon.

I’m a professional writer and Creative Writing instructor with literary and academic writing experience.

I have a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Writing, and I have worked as a tutor, an editor, and have mastered the art of homeschooling with my son. Additionally, I have presented papers and lectures on creative writing at Spalding University.

I’m also a veteran with seven honorable years in the United States Army and still proudly serve as a supportive and compassionate wife to a Soldier with two boys: twelve years old and ten months old.

Brief Biography
I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I always loved writing, but never thought being a writer could be lucrative—most writers have the same story.

So, I joined the military out of high school. After seven years of hard training, valuable lessons, and an ingrained work ethic that can’t be matched, I decided to go back to school.

I had just graduated with my B.A. in psychology, when my husband received transfer orders to Hawaii. For some reason, I had never shared my passion of writing with him, as if it was only something for me to cherish, but in the move, he found a huge black tote filled with my writings since I was nine years old.

Flipping through a childhood sketch pad where I did research at the library by drawing, taking notes, and writing stories, he looked at me and said, "This is what you should be doing."

Since then, I have nearly completed another bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing, and have achieved a master’s in Writing.

Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work with some really great writers: Philip F. Deaver (winner of the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction), Kira Obolensky (an award-winning playwright and writer), Rachel M. Harper (published fiction and poetry writer), Kirby Gann, Eleanor Morse, Elaine Neil Orr, Roy Hoffman, Maureen Morehead, and Anne Marie Fowler

With years of writing and excelling in formal education, attendance in multiple writing workshops, engagement in several writing groups both online and in my communities, and a start on my publishing career, I want to share my knowledge, my skills, and above all, my love for the written word.
